Who we are

The Nova Closet is a nonprofit that supports families navigating the foster care system. By providing educational programming on economic empowerment, health and wellbeing, and life skills, we support foster youth and the foster families that support them by providing essential items and advocacy. Inspired by lived experience, our mission is to ensure that every child entering foster care has access to all they need to thrive.

Why this matters

More than 4,000 children in Mississippi are navigating life in foster care. Too often, they arrive with little or nothing of their own. A single bag of essentials can do more than meet basic needs—it can bring comfort, restore dignity, and remind a child they are not alone.

But the need is larger than one moment. Foster families across the state face ongoing challenges, and more than 1,000 additional families are still needed. The Nova Closet is committed to closing these gaps—not only by providing immediate care through Nova Bags, but also by equipping and supporting foster families so they can continue opening their homes with strength and stability.

What we do

The Nova Closet meets both immediate and long-term needs of children in foster care and the families who care for them. Through Nova Bags and family support, we bring comfort in moments of transition. And through recruitment, retention, and empowerment programs, we help foster families remain strong and supported for the future.
